First Meeting of CPJRC Steering Committee Successfully Held

On December 23, the first meeting of the Steering Committee for China-Pakistan Joint Research Center for Earth Sciences (CPJRC) was held at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Pakistan. It was chaired by Prof. Niaz Ahmed Akhter, Vice-Chancellor of QAU.
Dr. Najeeb from Planning Commission of Pakistan; Dr. Anwar-ur-Hassan Gilani from the Higher Education Commission; Prof. Qasim Jan from the Pakistan Academy of Sciences; Prof. Tasawar Hayat, Dean of the Faculty of Science at QAU; Prof. Mumtaz Shah, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences; and Prof. Hong Tianhua, Executive Director of CPJRC, attended the meeting as committee members. Mr. Lei Yu, Deputy Director of CPJRC, and Ms. Li Wanhong, Program Coordinator of CPJRC, also attended the meeting as observers.
The committee engaged in thorough discussions on key agenda items, including the construction of the CPJRC campus, recruitment of Pakistani staff, and the establishment of a Joint BoG. Multiple consensuses were reached during the deliberations. To ensure systematic progress in preparatory work, the committee decided to implement a monthly meeting mechanism for regular oversight and follow-up.
The successful convening of this first meeting has laid a significant foundation for accelerating the subsequent phases of the CPJRC campus construction and related work in Pakistan.
