On December 15, 2025, CPJRC visited the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) to discuss deepening cooperation in disaster monitoring and scientific research.
The CPJRC delegation, led by Executive Director Professor Hong Tianhua and Deputy Director Dr. Lei Yu, was welcomed by GS P Director General Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Qureshi and Dr. Simon Sadiq, Director of the Geohazard Department, GSP. Professor Chen Huayong from the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, also attended the meeting.
Dr. Qureshi extended a warm welcome and provided an overview of GSP’s structure and operations. Dr. Sadiq elaborated on the agency’s progress in regional geological surveys, resource exploration, and geohazard monitoring.
Professor Hong Tianhua and Dr, Lei Yu introduced the CPJRC’s work and showcased a disaster risk simulation and refined early warning platform developed by CPJRC. They also briefed the participants on a comprehensive observational network consisting of 13 integrated stations, including monitoring meteorology, hydrology, and seismic waves, already established in northern Pakistan.
Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on several collaborative fronts, including data sharing from the observational network, joint research, co-hosting international conferences and short-term training programs, and conducting geological mapping along the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The meeting concluded with preliminary cooperation intentions.
Following the discussions, the CPJRC delegation visited GSP’s advanced geoscience laboratories. Technical staff from both institutions attended the meeting, which laid a solid foundation for further practical cooperation in geohazard monitoring, early warning, and earth sciences.
