CPJRC Delegation Visited UNESCO Islamabad Office to Explore Future Cooperation

On January 26, 2026, the CPJRC delegation visited the UNESCO Office in Islamabad upon invitation. The delegation, led by CPJRC Executive Director Professor Hong Tianhua and Deputy Director Dr. Lei Yu, had a discussion with Mr. Fuad Pashayev, Director of the UNESCO Office, Islamabad, to explore future collaboration.
Mr. Pashayev extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of UNESCO Islamabad’s work in Pakistan, as well as the country’s current status and future key priorities in the fields of education, science, and culture.
Professor Hong Tianhua expressed gratitude for the visit invitation and introduced CPJRC’s establishment background, key research areas, and activities in academic exchange and technical training. He also highlighted the UNESCO Chair for Mountain Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience, led by CPJRC Chief Scientist Academician Cui Peng.
The meeting featured in-depth exchanges on several potential collaborative areas, including mountain hazard prevention and early warning, tsunami early warning systems, and joint efforts to support Pakistan’s applications for UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves and Global Geoparks. Preliminary cooperation intentions were reached during the discussion.
Staff members from both UNESCO Islamabad and CPJRC participated in the meeting.
The UNESCO Office in Islamabad, serving as UNESCO’s representative body in Pakistan, has been operating in Pakistan since 1958, providing over seven decades of support. The Pakistani government also regards UNESCO as a long-term strategic partner in advancing its national development plans and priorities in education, culture, natural sciences, and related key fields.
