CPJRC Research Delegation Visited Islamabad to Advance Collaboration on the Platform of Mountain Hazard Risk Simulation and Forecasting System

From July 10 to 18, 2025, the CPJRC research delegation led by Prof. Zou Qiang and CPJRC Deputy Director Dr. Lei Yu visited Islamabad, Pakistan to advance collaboration on the “Development of Platform of Mountain Hazard Risk Simulation and Forecasting System”. Prof. Hong Tianhua, Executive Director of CPJRC and other members of CPJRC accompanied their visits.
During their stay, the delegation conducted multiple visits to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and Quaid-i-Azam University to facilitate the implementation of the Mountain Hazard Risk Simulation and Forecasting System platform project.
At NDMA, the delegation held a project progress meeting with Pakistani counterparts. Nadeem Paracha, Executive Director of NDMA’s National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), extended a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for Chinese efforts in developing the Simulation and Forecasting System platform and implementing it in NDMA to enhance Pakistan's early warning capabilities.
During the meeting, Prof. Zou presented the platform's operational effectiveness in China, particularly in Sichuan Province, while Dr. Lei Yu detailed advancements made since the bilateral cooperation agreement was signed in April 2024.
Both sides then engaged in substantive discussions on critical project issues. Prof. Zou and team members held focused talks with Pakistani project team Dr. Mohammad Usman and Dr. Umair regarding data requirements and joint demonstration sites for disaster monitoring. After the meeting, they conducted a field investigation at the demonstration site of Nullah Lai, providing foundational insights for project advancement.
Arranged by NDMA, the delegation also visited PMD for technical exchanges on meteorological data cooperation. Both sides shared experiences and achievements in data collection, analysis, and application, while exploring potential collaboration expansion at Nallah Lai disaster demonstration site.
This visit significantly accelerated joint development of the Disaster Risk Simulation and Precision Early Warning and Forecasting System Platform while deepening scientific cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani research institutions.
