Training Workshop on Climate Changes and Environment Consequence in CPEC Region was Held in Beijing

From November 9 to 11, the Training Workshop on Climate Changes and Environment Consequence in CPEC Region was successfully held in Beijing by China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC) and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Prof. Su Lijun, Deputy Director-General of CPJRC and Deputy Director- General of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), and Prof. Chen Fahu, Academician of CAS and Director of ITP, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. 

During the workshop, Academician Chen Fahu, Researcher Ma Yaoming, Researcher Zhu Haifeng, Dr. F Suhaib, Researcher Zhang Fan, Researcher Zhang Yinsheng and Researcher Hou Juchi from ITP, and Researcher Shangguan Donghui from the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, CAS, on the basis of their research fields and research results, gave lectures on the mode of precipitation changes in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the progress in the observation and modeling of land-atmospheric interaction process and its weather and climate effects in the Third Pole region, tree-ring climatology in the Karakoram Mountains, the Glaciers and Glacial Lakes, its current status, dynamics and distribution in Karakoram region of Pakistan, water sand and environment of Pakistan water tower, evolution of Pakistan water tower, environment changes reveal form lacustrine core in CPEC region and cryospheric vs Global changes, which were well received by the participants.

Due to the pandemic, an online visit was arranged for the participants to the laboratory of ITP.

The workshop was held both on line and on site, aiming to further strengthen the research on climate changes and environment consequence in CPEC region, and promote the popularization of cutting-edge knowledge to Pakistani researchers, thus to help them broaden their international vision and improve their scientific research, promote cooperation in the field of climate change between the two sides, and serve the sustainable development of the CPEC region.

A total of 30 trainees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries participated in the three-day onsite training, and more than 60 trainees participated in the online training.
