From August 29 to September 2, China-Pakistan Earth Science Research Center (hereinafter referred to as "CPJRC") and Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration jointly organized the "China-Pakistan Training Workshop on Earthquake Monitoring and Prevention Technology" in Beijing in a successful way. Prof. Su Lijun, Executive Deputy Director of CPJRC and Deputy Director of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS, Prof. Li Li, Deputy Director of Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration, and Prof. Yang Dake, researcher of Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
Prof. Su Lijun briefly introduced the background of the training course and expressed a warm welcome to all online and offline participants. Prof. Li Li introduced the training content and the professors who will give the presentation lessons. She hoped that through this training course, cooperation with Pakistan and other countries in earthquakes could be enhanced.
During the training period, Prof. Li Li, Prof. Yang Dake, Prof. Fang Lihua, Prof. Wang Weitao, Prof. Xu Xiaoming, Prof. Ma Qiang, Prof. Gao Mengtan, Prof. Chen Kunzheng, Prof. Xu Lisheng, Prof. Gan Weijun, Prof. Yuan Songyong, Prof. Xu Weiwei, Prof. Wen Ruizhi, Prof. Xu Guangyin, etc., from the Institute of Geophysics of the China Earthquake Administration, respectively, based on their respective research fields and research results, gave their lessons on Earthquake Observation and Its Application, Brief Introduction of Observational Seismology, Earthquake Catalogues: New Horizon, Modern Seismograph, Seismic Data Quality Evaluations using ambient noise, Seismic Phase Identification and Analysis: Examples from BJT, Earthquake Early Warning and its Application, Seismic Hazard Mapping, SKAKEMAP, An Inversion Method of the Focal Mechanisms of Micro & Small Earthquakes and Its Application, GNSS Observation and Its Application in Earthquake Science, Site Survey and Computation of Ground Noise; Software for Dealing with Seismic Waves, Fundamentals of Strong-Motion Seismology, Advancements in earthquake detection and location, and Discussion: Zonation Map for Pakistan. The participants were also organized to visit the Beijing National Earth Observatory for a one-day practice, and here students conducted software practice. The workshop was well received by all the participants.
The workshop adopted a combination of online and offline methods, aiming to better promote the construction of Pakistan seismic station network, enhance Pakistan earthquake monitoring and early warning capabilities, promote scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides, and further support the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
During the five-day training, more than 20 participants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries participated.
