China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences Participates in the Seminar on the Construction and Development of the Overseas Science and Education Cooperation Centers, Chinese Academy of Sciences

On March 6 - 7, 2023, the Seminar on the Construction and Development of the Overseas Science and Education Cooperation Centers, Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Shenzhen. The heads and representatives from Bureau of International Cooperation, and Bureau of Condition Assurance, and Bureau of Finance, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and overseas science and education cooperation centers (hereinafter referred to as “overseas institutions”), attended this seminar.
At the seminar, the relevant administrative departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology and China Academy of Sciences were invited to introduce the implementation of the Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan, the requirements of the fund use of overseas centers, and the performance evaluation of funds.
At the seminar, Academician Cui Peng, Director-General of China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (hereinafter referred to as “CPJRC”) and researcher of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (hereinafter referred to as “IMHE”), on behalf of three centers in the field of resources and environmental science, Kathmandu Center of Science and Education, CAS-TU, China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education & Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and CPJRC, gave a presentation on Resource and Environmental Security and Sustainable Development under the Belt and Road Initiative, and discussed the cooperation mechanism of overseas centers with participants. Researcher Su Lijun, Deputy Director--General of CPJRC and Deputy Director--General of IMHE, gave a presentation on CPJRC works in terms of research progress, international academic influence, multilateral platform collaboration, talent work and team building.
At the seminar, focusing on topics such as the construction of overseas centers and their future development planning, the participants had in-depth exchanges on the achievements and experiences of overseas centers in playing a platform role, undertaking state-planned programs, developing talents and building teams, implementing resource allocation and management, and striving for foreign aid resources. They also had a thorough discussion on the working achievements under the Belt and Road Initiative and the future working concept, the revision of the management methods of overseas institutions of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the planning and deployment of the CAS “3+5” strategy.
The seminar was hosted by Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which provides a useful platform for the centers to exchange experiences, summarize shortcomings, and pool their efforts.
