CPJRC Held Enrollment Information Session of USTC for International Students in Pakistan (Session I)

On December 10, 2020, in order to let Pakistani students have a better understanding of the universities affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and their enrollment, the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC) joined hands with the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), CAS, and successfully held a "Enrollment Information Session of USTC for International Students in Pakistan" through video conference. The session was chaired by Prof. Hong Tianhua, Executive Director of CPJRC. Prof. Jiang Jiajie, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation of USTC and Deputy Dean of the International College, and the team members made reports successively. A total of more than 70 students listened to the reports. Prof. Safdar Ali Shah, Director of the Office of "Belt and Road" of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, and Prof. Gulraiz Akter, former Dean of the Department of Earth Sciences of Quaid-i-Azam University, also watched the session online.

Prof. Jiang Jiajie gave a comprehensive introduction to the University's educational condition, faculty construction and achievements in education, scientific research, campus construction and international exchanges; Shen Yizhu, a teacher from the Office of International Cooperation gave a comprehensive introduction to the academic programs, the scholarships and the online application process; Zhou Xuan, Business Director of the Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research of USTC, introduced the Institute's projects and application guide in detail; Ataullah Kiani and Faryal Farooq, the Pakistani doctoral students studying at USTC, introduced their study and life in USTC, depicting a picture of colorful study experience in China to their compatriots. In the session, Pakistani students consulted on USTC's majors, enrollment application process, scholarship application, and employment after graduation, etc.

Before the session concluded, on behalf of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Safdar fully affirmed the online enrollment information session held by CPJRC, expressed his thanks to the representatives of CPJRC (Hong Tianhua and Su Fenghuan) and the speakers from USTC, and hoped that more information sessions could be held frequently in the future. He also informed the Pakistani students present that the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan had obtained funds from the government of Pakistan, which would be used to support Pakistani students to study in China.

This session is the first online enrollment information session held by CPJRC. In the future, CPJRC will cooperate with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and USTC to hold more enrollment information sessions, so as to better publicize CAS and its universities, CPJRC and IMHE, inspire and encourage more Pakistani students to apply for UCAS and USTC, and lay solid foundation for the enrollment of more high-quality international students in 2021.
