IEECAS Visited IMHE to Discuss the Scientific and Technological Cooperation of CPJRC

On September 15, in order to promote the cooperation between the institutes and get an in-depth understanding of the scientific and technological cooperation needs of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC), an 11-member party led by Director Liu Yu and Deputy Director Sun Youbin of the Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IEECAS) visited the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE) to discuss about scientific and technological cooperation. Wen Anbang, Director of IMHE, Chen Xiaoqing and Su Lijun, Deputy Directors of IMHE, Academician Cui Peng, Director of CPJRC, relevant persons in charge of the Key Laboratory of Hazards, the Key Laboratory of Environment, the Science and Technology Division and the General Office as well as key members of CPJRC attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Su Lijun.
Wen Anbang extended a warm welcome to Liu Yu and his party. He pointed out that IMHE and IEECAS had a long history of scientific and technological cooperation as well as their own advantages in disciplines. He also hoped that the two parties could focus on their needs, reach consensus, and carry out in-depth integration in project planning, personnel exchanges, platform construction and so on by centering on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas, so as to achieve win-win results and provide joint support for China's major needs under the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
Deputy Director Ge Yonggang of the Science and Technology Division introduced the research condition of the Institute. After listening to the introduction, Director Liu Yu fully affirmed the scientific and technological achievements made by IMHE in the field of mountain disasters and environment and its forward-looking deployment for the "Belt and Road Initiative", and emphasized the great significance of the research on disasters, ecology and environment in the surrounding areas of the Tibetan Plateau. He also hoped to further strengthen cooperation with IMHE on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and in the fields related with the Tibetan Plateau, so as to carry out environmental background survey and research on the laws of climate and environmental changes at different time scales, and provide support for the construction of major national projects.
Academician Cui Peng emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary integration in his speech. He pointed out that CPJRC focusing on the Western Himalayan Syntaxis and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is of great significance to the research on earth sciences and resources, ecology, environment, disasters and other fields, and will play an important leading role in promoting the construction of the "Belt and Road". He also hoped that IEECAS and IMHE could strengthen cooperation, aim at the scientific and technological problems arising in the construction of the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor", jointly provide new research methods for the future development trend of disasters and ecological environment under climate change conditions, and produce high-quality scientific and technological achievements, so as to promote the innovative development of earth sciences and provide support for the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The participants carried out heated discussions and exchanges on topics such as mountain disasters, climate change, scientific and technological cooperation on ecological protection research and construction of CPJRC, and unanimously agreed to take CPJRC as the platform and focus on the Tibetan Plateau and related fields to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges, promote research on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and provide support for the construction of the "Belt and Road".
Personnel attending the meeting included: Researchers Jin Zhangdong (Director of the State Key Laboratory of Loess and Quaternary Geology), Song Yougui and Cai Qiufang and Associate Researchers Lan Jianghu and Li Qiang of IEECAS; Sun Junyan, Director of the General Office of IEECAS; Dai Dan, Deputy Director of the General Office of IMHE (taking charge of related works); Wang Xiaodan, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Mountain Environment; Zhou Gongdan, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Mountain Hazards; and Associate Researchers Su Fenghuan and Yu Fangwei.
