On June 30, the International Training Workshop on the "Belt and Road" and "Silk Road Disaster Risk Reduction" for Developing Countries was held in Chengdu. It was funded by the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and jointly organized by the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment of CAS, the Alliance of International Science Organizations on Disaster Risk Reduction (ANSO-DRR), and the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC). More than 20 young scientists and disaster reduction professionals from 10 countries, including Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran, and Rwanda, participated in the training. Cui Peng, Academician of CAS, and Chen Xiaoqing, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, attended the opening ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, Cui Peng, Chen Xiaoqing and other speakers introduced the scientific research work of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, the basic condition of the training workshop, the status quo of the disaster risks related with the "Belt and Road", the progress of disaster reduction researches related with the "Belt and Road", and the construction progress of ANSO-DRR. Afterwards, all the trainees visited the Dynamics Simulation Hall (Debris Flow), the Analysis and Testing Center and the Science and Technology Exhibition Hall of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment.

With the theme of "Silk Road Disaster Risk Reduction", the training workshop invited many experts, including Professor Yang Dawen of Tsinghua University, Professor Wang Ninglian of Northwest University, Professor Zhang Limin of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Researcher Wang Dongxiao of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, Chief Engineer Wang Renkun of PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation Limited, Researcher Wang Juanle of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, Professor Zhao Xiaoyan of Southwest Jiaotong University, Professor Amod Dixit, Secretary General of National Society for Earthquake Technology, Nepal, Professor Ana Cruz of Kyoto University, Japan, Associate Professor Matthew Blackett and Associate Professor Chen Yungfang of Coventry University, UK, as well as Researcher Su Lijun, Researcher Chen Ningsheng, Researcher Hu Kaiheng and Researcher Ouyang Chaojun of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS.

According to the workshop arrangement, experts gave theoretical lectures on geological disasters, earthquakes, marine disasters, floods and other disasters from July 1 to July 10, and provided practical workshops such as field trip to Longchi in Dujiangyan, UAV operation, data processing, digital simulation software, etc. from July 11 to July 19. The purpose of these workshops was to let the trainees master knowledge and practical techniques of disaster prevention and alleviation, so as to provide better support for related works; meanwhile, to improve the promotion and application of China's technology on disaster risk assessment, monitoring and early warning as well as engineering management in the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road", improve the disaster prevention and control capabilities and people's livelihood security of these countries, promote the economic and social stability and sustainable development of these countries, and make contributions to disaster reduction in the cause of building "a community with a shared future for mankind".
